We here at Soft Chaos have some important questions for you!
- Do you happen to be in the Twin Cities August 22-24?
- Have you ever wanted to Larp as the ghosts of a Fleetwood Mac-esque band on a purgatorial tour bus?
If you answered yes to both of these questions, boy do we have a great surprise for you! Make a Scene has selected a Larp scenario that Soft Chaos has been stealthily working on over the spring and summer to premiere at their 2025 festival.
Thunder Only Happens When It's Raining is a journey through the personal histories and relationships of a Fleetwood Mac-like rock band from the 70s, as represented by their ghosts, who are dressed in paisley-patterned bedsheets. The game will be a nostalgic look back at their complicated lives, and a dramatic reckoning with and addressing of the conflicts that they lived through together, along with the secrets they've kept from one another. The setting will move from the tour bus to flashbacks of their past concerts, to a mysterious black void in which the bus makes pit stops.
Play will be centered around a core play loop:
Flashbacks: Ghosts will relive a conflict from when they were alive.
Purgatory Tour: As they continue trapped on the purgatory tour bus to nowhere, the ghosts will argue about the flashbacks they just experienced while trying to put together the perfect playlist for their upcoming show.
Pitstops: A time spent in a mysterious black void when the bus needs to stop for gas. Ghosts are given the chance to “cross over” if they feel like they have resolved their unfinished business.
