🧂 herbal journal entry #1 — SALT 🧂

Posted by Cosmic Healing on Feb 07, 2026

Welcome to my first herbal journal entry!! I started this in my physical bullet journal a bit ago because I wanted to have deeper understandings of the various herbs, spices, ingredients I use in my baking + cooking. I’m hoping to add greater context + depth to the meaning of what makes a dish and how it can impact us— belly, heart, and soul!

So yes, today I’ll be getting into salt! Salt is such a life-sustaining ingredient, and the most necessary ingredient in a kitchen.

Intuitive/Held Knowledge

  • salt is protective by way of containment and drawing out

    • The following list indicates to me how salt can make a physical space safer (2) or hold + absorb emotions that we need help with or are not ours to hold (4)—leading to salt circles and salt bowls on altars. I’m also beginning to recognize salt’s power to show cracks (1) and remove unwanted elements (3).

      1. salt enlivens the tongue, making flavors pop

      2. salt helps to retain water within the body

      3. salt leads to water leeching in food

      4. salt absorbs/is affected by the moisture from the air

  • salt is a preservative

    • salt cases for fish

    • jerky

    • embalming

New Learnings

*I learned these facts from the Salt wikipedia page as a jumping off point for further research!

  • salt was used (and who knows, may still be used!) as currency

  • salt was often an offering in ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman practices

  • salt is associated with Huixocihuatl, who is a fertility goddess within Aztec mythology

  • salt is seen to be protective and bring good will

I already know that as time passes, I will learn more and have more analysis concerning salt and it’s use in the kitchen, spiritual spaces, and it’s presence on Earth. I presume I’ll be back one day with the herbal journal—revisited. Do you have any of your own salt connections, knowings, stories, or thoughts?? Please hit me up over email, and I can share them with the CFJ Comradery Crew. You can reach me at [email protected]

stay salty my friends!
