Salt the roads because ICE needs to melt! (and borders in general)

My Cooking Fulla Joy offerings and this very Comradery is rooted in fat liberation which includes food justice which is connected to abolition (because all our liberation is connected!), and this leads me to detention centers and prisons not providing adequate, nourishing, or even edible food. These institutions and the fascist f**ks + complicit cowards who run them do not treat people as living beings who deserve the basic need of safe sustenance.

Since at least 2020, I’ve been getting updates from La Resistencia — a grassroots organization in Washington state led by undocumented people in solidarity with detainees at Northwest Detention Center, fighting for the closing of the facility and an end to all detentions and deportations. Through their newsletters, I’ve learned about several hunger strikes happening within NWDC, which happen in part due to the fact that the food provided is “spoiled, uncooked, or has worms in it.” That was from a newsletter back in 2022, so with the government’s emboldened disregard for anyone, I only can guess that it’s much worse now.

If you’d like to these emails yourself and see others ways to support folks detained and taking action to end detention centers, check out this page on the La Resistencia website.

This is only a small tendril of the injustices and horrors that incarcerated people are facing every day, so I’ll say again, salt the fkn roads because ICE needs to melt — and that’s step one.

I’ll be back in a couple days with my mini deep dive on salt!

with care + in solidarity,

I’m giving y’all a taste for a month with these first four posts, and after this month, 3 of the 4 posts each month will be for paid members only. You can become a paid member by going to the memberships tab; they start at $1/month.
