I’m sitting in my grandmother’s living room in Minnesota right now, it’s the morning of December 28, 2023. She is 94 years old, 95 in July. I visit her as often as I can, which has been about three to four times a year. Visiting with her is mostly sitting around, but I enjoy sitting around. A lot of work gets done while you’re sitting around. I have made many plans for 2024 already. Half of 2023 was eaten up by being forced to move twice. Housing prices have skyrocketed all over the country, and my little city has not been spared. Me and my partner were forced out of our home February / March last year, and after a few extremely stressful months, we landed in one of the most beautiful and wonderful homes anyone could ask for. I say all this, because when I am sitting around in this living room reflecting on the past year, it’s easy to forget that much of my time was stolen from me. I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to accomplish. I think that’s likely a common feeling among creative people. I try to do too much, and I like it that way. Which is kind of why it’s nice to see my grandmother a few times a year and spend a little time sitting around. Let’s sit around together in 2024.
