August 2023 Playlist

The turn of the seasons always messes up my concept of time, so this is a few days late but! August! Hot and weird and well, I hope you like dance. There was that faux '00s Euro dance song that was popular this month and a coworker was talking to me about it and I can't remember how I attempted to politely say I wasn't fond of it and she said, "OH! you're too close to it." Which is in the top three kindest ways I've been read to filth. No, you're right, I am too close to loving turn-of-the-century Euro dance music.

 

Also CRJ had a new album out AND my beloved Boy Jr. released an EP, more of which will be in September's playlist, probably, but "Shapes & Colors" is a specific nonbinary mood.

• For a while one of my go-to other people's playlists is that of Dance-Charts.de. It's exactly what you think it is. The remix of "Not Fair" on this month's playlist was in the top five for WEEKS.
• This clip of Attenborough talking about the wild shit flamingos live and thrive in, and about their feather colour. Sorry, the auto captions are in Dutch? The whole thing is gone into more detail in A Perfect Planet, but also a baby flamingo has a bad end, fyi.
• The video for Tove Lo's "Elevator Eyes" is a very specific lower-fi aesthetic, which is not what I'm linking because I just learned the official music video for "I like u" is anime-specifically the community-created Galverse. Whose shop appears to only take bitcoin or similar. What a wild world.
