April has been! Something!

Sorry for the radio silence, I spent last week (my birthday week) in the clutches of a needs-antibiotics kind of sinus infection which, in retrospect, explains why I haven't had a lot of brain energy lately! It was all snot up there. (Un)luckily, I am an old hand at sinus infections and even better now that I do things like "actually take it easy" and don't commute to work, so I'm on the mend!

I'm trying to ignore the "you weren't productive this month" worms (literally today was telling someone at work that the concept of "productivity" is false! but we are the worst at taking our own advice). Because also? I totally did stuff this month.

  • Did a lot of planner update stuff including making a better monthly template for daily goals using a real ride of a font (which I learned about from this Tumblr post).
  • Started on reverse-engineering a child's toy I remembered to make a belated present for somebody, which I cannot share although I've cracked the problem, hooray.
  • Finished my April playlist and playlist cover hilariously early (a birthday present to myself it is so pleasing).
  • Read five books, apparently (thanks for keeping track, Storygraph). Most notably, I read Every Bird a Prince by Jenn Reese and its a delight of a middle-grade book I think everyone with kids of that age should add to their library (baby queer stuff! learning your truth! so many birds! just the right amount of scary that is overcome by friendship and honesty!).
  • I went out and enjoyed the cartoonishly beautiful spring!
  • Finally ordered stickers of the Strength tarot so folks who are very in love with that Tumblr post can have one (I have been asked about them!).
  • I played with some very cool t-shirt transfers, these Transourdream transfers aren't printed mirrored, look really awesome and apparently hold up super well to washing!

A hand pulls up the corner of an image transfer from a white paper backing. The transfer is large and seems sturdy, with a slight give to it. Below, a white t-shirt lays ready to have the image ironed on.

What I didn't do was work on my April labours at all, but that's okay! I know the things I need to be working on:

  • Monthly labours.
  • Editing the Flash Fiction February short stories so they can be collected.
  • Doing illustrations for the above for the same reason.

And I'm going to remind myself that I monetarily support multiple folks on various platforms who have less "output" than I do and it is! Okay! One very good thing that came out of my basically week-long bed rest was I learned there are loads of American Experience and Nova episodes on Hoopla. If you haven't seen what digital delights are available with your library card, it is worth checking out. Sick me was quite content using up all my borrows renting documentaries on insects, whaling, the FDA, and early forensic science (mostly poisons) over and over again.

I hope spring is being gentle for you all and I look forward to sharing more concrete things soon. Not because I "have" to so much as I will be sound of mind and body enough to have made them!
