November! The day I write this Spotify Wrapped dropped and gosh I love picking through and thinking about how they create these things, especially as I encounter similar processes at work (also you can't talk about the modern story-style Spotify Wrapped without a shoutout to the intern who conceived it).
This month's vibes were deep fall, so Matt Berry's Witchazel was a gimme, along with some faves from the soundtrack from The Crow and even though Oneida's The Wedding has a lot of high summer vibes there's a mournful energy about it that works in autumn.
My soft goal for 2022 was to have Boy Jr. be my most listened artist, but I failed due to Carly Rae Jepsen's siren song ("Warm Blood" specifically). Nonetheless, I had a lot of their songs in my top faves. This is the second year in a row where "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran wasn't in my top five (though it was in my top ten because, listen, it slaps). For a long time, I used a five-song (well, six, with one song repeated) playlist as brain white noise and those five songs would invariably be my top five in Wrapped. But last year it was very much songs from various project playlists, and this year my whole monthly playlist deal similarly shook things up.
With only a month left of the year I've been poking at my own stats I've been keeping of songs, thinking of interesting ways to present them. I like! Data!
Anyway here's a link to November's playlist on Spotify, with the track list below.
