[Main image description: An illustration of Garfield fallen back in an office chair in front of a computer desk, still holding onto his keyboard. The text, which originally reads "Yep. It's Monday." has been edited to say "Yep. It's October 2022," and Garfield is wearing his classic pirate costume from the animated Halloween special.]

October! Thematic playlist time!! September I set myself up for a challenge by dropping Portishead, Over The Garden Wall and the theme song for the Ducktales game into the upcoming month’s playlist but I think it all hangs together in the end. There is even, in fact, one very fabulous transition due to an OTGW song, so!

Although the overall theme was “spooky/Halloween vibes” it’s still my monthly playlist and therefore has some less-creepy songs that just came up as the month rolled along (ie: new CRJ and Tove Lo songs, “Amie,” apparently). Speaking of, CW on that Tove Lo song, “Grapefruit,” which is very explicitly about disordered eating and dysmorphia. It comes on after “Freak Out” when playing chronologically (and remember! You can hide a song on Spotify, it’s a lifesaver).

One particular song of note is “Hurrian Hymn no. 6,” which I learned about via a Tumblr post. It’s a musical fragment from Mesopotamia 1400BCE, played on an era-accurate instrument!! The linked Tumblr post goes into why being able to hear this piece is so special and it’s just lovely.

Also, I will just put "Coconut" on most things but it's valid here because it is from Practical Magic and is a great example of using a fun song during a scene that breaks weird without it feeling hackneyed.
