[Main image description: A semi-vaporwave style image with a faded ocean background with neon gradient palm tree silhouettes over it and a desaturated grid atop that. Over all this are three figures, two are musicians from medieval illuminated manuscripts, the largest playing a stringed instrument and the smallest playing a horn as a bird stands on their head. The third figure is a smug Garfield playing the guitar. "July 2022" in a gothic font rests in a rainbow gradient box with a half-transparent pixelated mouse icon over it.]
I often start my playlists with some sort of core, even if it's "fuck it," and for July was both Boy Jr.'s new album and this playlist I've been working on that is basically trying to put together a mixtape that played every summer when I was a kid lake camping with my father's family. I'll never remember all of it, just the songs that have stuck with me the most, from Sade and Celia Cruz and Miami Sound Machine and, it turned out, Santana.
There are also some songs from Southland Tales on here, because it is a Fourth of July movie and one we watch a lot. And, well. There is also a bunch of bardcore, both honest bardcore covers of modern pop songs and also just folk stuff, or something from Sting's lute album that my bff and I made a part of our personalities the year it came out.
Unlike most of my playlists this one needs to be played chronologically, not on shuffle, because it is really discordant otherwise. Anyway, here's to unrestrained summer fun.
