The Obligatory "I can't remember things so I think this is what I did this year" Post

Posted by bzedan on Jan 01, 2022

Whew, sorry for the basically no-post month. It really does bother me when I don't, I dunno "deliver content" but also just feel like I'm upholding my side of our little contract of support. Whatever! Capitalism!! January is going to be some thinking from me RE: Patreon and Comradery and blogging in general and wtf is the plan here. I will say this: all y'all pay my gas bill (and help me support other Patreon creators) so I am eternally grateful.

I like looking at one made in the preceding year as an exercise in remembering I DID do things and make things. The big thing I did in 2021 was to finish writing a book and then, let's be honest I got scared like a baby because it is, I think, good-good and I don't know what to do about that. SO of course I promptly threw myself into other projects for emotional distance. However: a thing done. I did actually a solid amount of writing here and there throughout the year, from a wealth of fic with a friend about our OCs to some flash fiction (Patreon supporters can see it all here, others can find select pieces on my blog), and a couple of shorts within the world of the book (Patreon supporters can see them here and here). And I started another longer-form project as well and also another short story in a very different form than I normally go for.

Here's some more in bullet point form:

  • made a cosplay of The Nowhere King from Centaurworld (season 2 is out now, the story is complete, go get the songs in your head).
  • made a Picrew, to see if I could.
  • I continued playing in our weekly D&D game and it doesn't live rent-free in my head I pay IT to live here with me (here's a Twitter thread of some game doodles).
  • drew Bowsette and Peach I guess? I DO NOT REMEMBER DOING THIS, but dang guess I did.
  • I made a game writing section on my site and used the Pixelles Writing Portfolio Program to build the content. See posts on Comradery herehere and here for some of the process.
  • Speaking of, I also made a "game" using Twine (see blog post here for process and link) and have spent honestly most of this year just thinking about story structure in and out of interactive fiction.
  • I read 32 books at least and loved most of them, hooray, more fuel for thinking about stories. (if you support me on Patreon, reviews are there)
  • I made two really badass holiday presents you won't get to see until the new year.
  • I had I think more up than downtimes, a lot of that to do with finally figuring out a planner system that works with my brain and what my life is currently.

I don't know what the new year holds, other than the incredibly dorky holiday cards I send out in January. Maybe I'll return to some monthly goals as a holding pattern, maybe I won't. I'm content to keep finding whatever balance gives me more up days than down. May your upcoming days hold bright points of joy that act as anchors in whatever the surrounding days hold.

I leave you with one of my favourite memes I made this year.

The "good for her" meme but the text says "Good for Shrek."
