Hello, and thanks for reading Sunscreen, a blog about solarpunk and human computer interaction.
I’m a UX designer and strategist and I believe a few things about the technology that I work with daily and make a living from:
Tech is for humans, by humans
We all use technology, and in many ways rely on it. We gotta make it work for us, as a collective and as individuals, not for big corporations that want our time, money, and attention.
Humans need to live in harmony with the natural world
We’re stuck on this planet for the foreseeable future, and it’s a pretty good planet anyway. Let’s preserve our habitat.
Innovation and progress is the human condition
We’ve always been doing it. No point in denying our natural instincts. Just point them in the direction of good not evil.
Humans have a responsibility to each other and to our environment
No one else is going to take care of us. We either care for each other or we embrace our own extinction.
Change happens from the bottom up, and is imperfect
Action is better than inaction. Done is better than perfect. There is no ideal solution but we should keep trying.
Dreaming about the future makes the future
Imagining what could be is the first step to making it happen.
This is a blog about the future, and technology, and most importantly, humans. This is a blog about big ideas and things that won’t happen in our lifetimes. This is a blog about sparking the imagination of the people who will make change (including you!). This is about HCI and why it should be human-computer interaction and not user experience.
This is a blog about how we change the world.
I hope you enjoy and take away some new ideas, and come up with ideas of your own.
Here’s to the future.
