Our comrade Adam, who we've been corresponding with for a full year wanted us to share this statement regarding what Midnight Books means to him. Adam is incarcerated in California's system and a native of East Los Angeles. He found Midnight Books through Slingshot's Zine, recognizing a radical bookstore from his old haunts and wanted to reach out.
We have lives, families, careers supporting the community, stuck in our thoughts creating words of wisdom, or just mentally escaping the darkness.
While everyone had time to step away from the world of chaos, we put our words, thoughts, and vision into actions. No more speaking about it, we are being about it!
What is midnight?...
It’s the light we seek in the darkness.
Everyone has had a moment of feeling/being alone.
When you need emotional comfort, a genuine friend, and a home to escape.
Midnight is the spot for all brothers n sisters n siblings to be welcomed.
When we were young or alone, we wished for a friend. When the youth found/finds their calling/their dreams, it’s discouraging for the families who don’t have the time n money to help their children to move forward, is the place to network, mentor, find a book, or even a teacher.
We are here now, today n tomorrow to help everyone.
For now, we may be small, but small voices/actions make huge impacts. We will not only rise as a family, a community center, world of art...but also as the true meaning of LOVE!
