As of the end of August, 2024, I have two major projects.
Small Games Done Fast
First, I was recently laid off my senior writer job due to "refactoring" which I believe is corporate-speak for "we're using AI now so don't need as many personnel" given how many of my fellows were let go at the same time. Given the market - Ubisoft laid off a whole lot of people just days later - I'm going to focus on making short games at a rapid pace - as portfolio pieces, and in case any inspire me to turn them into something longer and potentially commercial in nature.
I hesitate to call it "a game a week" because shit happens and you never know how long something will take, but I'm certainly scoping for a week's effort - a day to plan, two or three days for mechanics, two or three days to create art and music assets, then a day or so to polish, test, revise, and release.
Narrative Analysis Videos
Second project: Months ago I released a narrative analysis of the 1980 video game Ultima as yet another portfolio piece. It blew up, bringing my YouTube subscribers from around a hundred to thousands. Prior to this I'd just been doing the occasional devlog, but this encouraged me to do more analytical playthroughs discussing the story elements of early games, along with some other video game history videos. People seem to like them.
So that's project two - currently I'm playing the 1988 SEGA Master System game Phantasy Star, so I'll be releasing a video on it soon as well.
Other Projects
I might write another novel? I don't know. Depends on how the job hunt goes.
