Greetings.
I assume that, in living on a planet with wars, pollution, and genocide, it's difficult to imagine what life could be like here in the Realm of Long Peace of Communia. I think, like war, or even just like another culture, you can only really live through it day-to-day to begin to understand a peace that lasts millenia. So even if I wrote a whole book to describe life here, I would still be only scratching the surface of the many ways in which peace is maintained, in ways big and small. But, I wonder, why not try? Even though Earth readers will always have to imagine life here no matter how thoroughly I write about my experience and my people, I feel the effort might be valuable nonetheless for the mere purpose of sparking said imagination, because imagining with peace in mind might be useful for improving life on Earth.
I suppose I could start with an early memory of an event that happened so long ago that I often have to ask my community's Story Treasurer (a sort of local historian who lives incredibly long) to confirm the details. In that memory, I remember being small still compared to most of the others around me, and we were gathered in the plaza at the heart of the community to commemorate the long life of Hentra, a mystic and philosopher named after a nearby planet who had died just a few days prior. They had lived for what on Earth would be well over 300 years, and everyone was wearing funerary masks and costumes representing various beings whose purpose was to help Hentra's spirit feel supported by loved ones during its dispersal. The air was filled with the perfume of Hazjie, a sweet-smelling entheogenic herbal oil that has effects similar to psilocybin on Earth. It was my first funeral event, and despite the newness of the day's proceedings, the Hazjie presented me with a feeling of immense calm and familiarity and affection, something I could sense that Hentra and everyone around me had felt, even if just for a moment, during every day of their life. If as an Earthling you're able to find a moment where such a feeling arises, you've felt a tinge of what it's like to live here. And I hope this newsletter can help bring about such a feeling in those it reaches. Best wishes,
