February 2025 Update

Posted by Joey Peters on Feb 28, 2025

This has been a hell of a month. There’s a lot going on in the world and, well, if you know me you know what I’ve been up to. But to decompress I have actually squeezed away some time to work on my various projects.

I’ve made a lot of progress on the first draft of Refugees from Utopia. I have crested what is probably the half way point, the big false climax. It’s turning out a little bit different than I expected, which is par for the course. Dissidents of Utopia was very different from my original plan, and even the draft that I finally released was very different from the first draft. I’m hoping to have the first draft done by summer.

Shop Floors & Supervisors is at the stage where the first draft is 95% done forever. It’s something that happens with creative projects sometime when you’re nearly finished but the cleanup stretches out and takes forever. I’ve been plugging away on it all month. The player’s manual section and the sample adventure are both very nearly finished, and I just have to compile a bunch of tables for the monsters and treasure book. The thing is that I really need to playtest it before I can start pumping out the art for it (illos in the style of somehow both the original zine version of Dungeons & Dragons but also Engels little doodles of the Young Hegelians). I’ll be able to finish the last 5% once I make sure I’m on the right track with the overall design.

I’ve been working on an essay about Gene Roddenberry and I’m going to release that tonight. Tomorrow I’m going to go through my old comics and rerelease my parody Chick Tract.

Next month I’m hoping to record some weird ancillary advertising stuff for Dissidents of Utopia and maybe start pushing that stuff on a YouTube channel (and weirdly maybe PornHub… there’s actually surprisingly a lot of SFW content on there for complicated reasons).

I think the essay I’m going to want to write for March will be about Neal Adams’ failed attempt to form a comic book union.
