Thinking about language this month.

I’m writing this in a language used to colonize most of the planet, a language that some of my ancestors would have spoken and others would not have. I’m curious what language means to you, to your friends, to your mom. Language attempting to define reality, futilely. The history of language as magic, spells, spelling, incantations, sung magic, neurolinguisitc programming, tower of babel, colonization and language eradication, language as technology, technology as sorcery and magick, sentient rocks and computers and elemental powers filtered through programming languages to make our machines and our global communications work somewhat reliably.

How words feel in the mouth, if they are sounded out in the front of the mouth like English or the middle like French or in the back like bits of German and a lot of Arabic. Lakhota uses almost all parts of the mouth but especially the back of the tongue and the teeth. I can’t speak any of those languages conversationally but I can understand bits and pieces and Lakhota particularly makes me feel good to hear. Parts of my body relax that I didn’t know were tense, even while I struggle with pronunciation and the small amounts of grammar I know.

Every language has it’s culture embedded into it, social norms and cultural ethics woven into it’s syntax as it grows into itself with each new generation.

What words feel good in your mouth?

What sound drips off your tongue and into your spirit?

How can we use this to defeat fascism?

But enough of that,

I have some glitch art in the ACES expo in Seattle's Pioneer Square neightborhood. The expo opens tomorrow, Oct 17th. Go see it if you feel like it. 801 1st ave.

Here is a recent glitch image from the Glitchtober prompts offered by the glitch artists collective. The prompt was "obedient". I won't be releasing this anywhere else because I don't own the base image but I like it. Maybe you will like it too.
