What I'm Seeing - June 2026

Posted by AugustIsWriting yesterday

Just yesterday was my last PlayPenn Foundry session as a full-time member. I'm going to miss it! It's been a crazy three years, and it really feels like my career and craft have levelled up in an observable way, and a big part of that was the Foundry influence. I've met some new good friends through it, and that kind of expansive, supportive community can feel rare in this day and age! Lead artists R. Eric Thomas and LM Feldman are masteful facilitators, and I'm so grateful I got to learn from them. Getting to sit and soak up industry tips, professional pointers, and notes on craft for both my work and others is the best way to grow, in my opinion, and the fact that I could do that for three hours every two weeks for three years, for FREE, is a godsend. Thank you, Foundry, for saving me from having to pursue an MFA.

Bonus Art

I spontaneously caught Ain't Misbehavin at Theatre Horizon, and it was a real treat. I could watch Jessica Money sing the phone book, and it was lovely seeing Curtis Harris's professional debut. Plus, it turns out the best cure for writers block is listening to two hours of great jazz!

What I'm Seeing

Capability Pink from Jeff Katz (I caught this a couple years ago, and have been thinking about it since! Highly recommend!)

Bullshit Shakespeare from SideQuest Theater

I'll be in Chicago for a week at the end of the month - still taking suggestions on comedy shows, one-night-only performances, dancing, or anything else you think I should check out! Right now the only ticket I've bought is for the Pokemon archeology exhibit at the Field Museum, if you were wondering where my priorities are.
