What I'm Seeing - April 2026

Posted by AugustIsWriting on Apr 01, 2026

I'm coming to you bleary-eyed and mussy-haired. I participated in a 24 Hour Immersive Jam from Obvious Agency last weekend, and I ended up taking audiences on a 2-minute carousel ride to make them feel (and consider) centrifugal force. I'm learning that my recovery time for these things is getting longer and longer and yet I've done four 24-hour theater processes now; I really thrive on a crunch.

Thriving on crunch is probably why the academic structure works so well for me. I wish I was too cool for school. I wish I could say academia is elitist and gatekeep-y (it is) and that my brain can't be constrained to assignments and semester schedules (it can). I had several deadlines this month, this WEEK, and yes, I have a new draft and a short immersive piece to play around with now. But at what cost? (Big sleepy)

I was asked the other day if I'm an early to bed early to rise person, and while I am an early to bed person it isn't really about what time I go down, but how many hours I get. I'm a "7 hours of sleep at MINIMUM" person. I'm a "10 hours every day would be ideal" person. And now I'm realizing I'm a "August if you only get 5 hours of sleep on Saturday it fucks your whole week" person.

The immersive jam was SO MUCH FUN. I got to see some great works in progress from Yannick Trapman-O'brien, Dane Saint, and Jessica Creane. Very excited to see where Dane's Futureful is going in particular!
